Because I live in an old Nova Scotian fishing village, this time of year brings many very sweet, uncomplicated traditions. There’s much gift giving, visiting, baking, sharing and laughter. Edward decorated a beautiful outdoor pine tree with outdoor lights, so that we can share the enjoyment with our neighbors without giving our cats and dogs the pleasure of de-constructing a Christmas tree! We made Christmas/New Years cards, folding sheets of paper into little books, while we listened to Dickens’ A Christmas Carol podcast. Once the cards were folded, we sent some of them to friends and family by post, but for the village, we went around and hand delivered them. Lots of fun, that! Now the open houses start. People announce an open house at a certain time, and the village drops in. Lovely!
So I am collecting (having this avaricious nature) websites that encourage simplicity and joy of the season, and beyond, really.
Zen Habits has a nice list of simple gifts. I love #25. Take a look: Read the rest of this entry »
